on strep and training issues

So today I got a call from the doctor's office today, informing me that we are all carrying strep, and prescriptions would be phoned in for us to pick up. Well! Not too surprising, considering the quantity of outbreaks around here, but still... how can we carry the bug without symptoms?! I guess it happens! So we're all on heavy-duty antibiotics for 2 full weeks... let's kill this baby!!

So I made the 20 minute trip in to the drugstore... not too bad, except I'm trying to potty train Noodle today and so far it's been a disaster - I did not need the added interruption of running to town right then... Anyone with potty training advice (that works!) is entitled to a hug from me! Noodle is just so different than Buster... with Buster I never worried about #2, but he had a lot of #1 accidents. With Noodle, he couldn't care less about #2 in his shorts but he doesn't really like #1... But... so far nothing has entered the potty, so I'm tearing my hair out - is he just not ready?!?! He's 3, for goodness' sake!!

  1. I have no useful potty training advice. I find it a miracle that my twins are potty trained. Maybe that is the key: they will get it eventually.

My dad is a minister. When I was a child I used to get strep ALL the time. Finally, the doctor tested all of my family to see if anyone was carrying it. My dad was carrying it without having any symptoms. Once he was treated, I quit getting it so much (that year). The think he picked it up from being in hospitals visiting church members. He always, always, always washes his hands before leaving a hospital now and has ingrained that practice in me.

Hopefully, after your 2 weeks of antibiotics, you will all be well!

  2. Ok my not so little boy(now) had that same #2 issue when he was 3 almost 4.
What turned out to be the real issue with him was not wanting to deal with the poo himself. Not wanting to wipe or be involved with it. He would tell me MOM! I pooped ! change me. Oh if they can tell you that they can go in the toilet ! Anyway what I ended up doing and what worked for us (I'm not speaking for anyone else.) If he pooed in his undies He not me had to clean them out and wash himself up. Obviously with supervision. He was potty trained in one week. No more problems it was easier to wipe than to clean up the mess.

  3. You don't know me and I don't know you but I think you're blog is GREAT and wanted to tell you a/b a method/lady who has a great method...I know it sounds crazy, but the first step is to get rid of all the diapers (i put them in the basement out of site-for the next babino, and for backup ;0)...then you say "let me know when you need to go potty" and then I would just put my son on the toilet, even if he said he didn't need to go...of course he didn't want to sit on the toilet, it's sooo much easier to just let mom change diapers...I combined my own with hers and it finally worked...at night too!!!! her site is:
http://www.3daypottytraining.com...it's only $25 (money well spent if you ask me) Good Luck!
