back to the earth

Today the boys and I planted our own little garden. We haven’t really had our own garden before, especially not since the boys have been able to help, so it was super fun for all of us. No, our yard isn’t finished yet, but the neighbors were kind enough to loan us a 12x24’ patch for the season. Buster begged to do the onions and I admit, I hesitated a little cuz I wanted to! I have memories of doing that every spring…

Growing up, we had huge gardens every year. My parents not only had 10 kids but also were generally short on cash, so we managed a little market gardening on the side. And I honestly grew up to hate gardening. I’m an indoor girl anyway but that sorta pushed me over the edge. But as an adult, a mother, and lately, a frugal one… I kinda got enthused about the whole gardening concept. I planted Romaine lettuce, radishes, onions, carrots, peas, green beans and potatoes. Besides that, I have my herb garden on my patio and folks, we are set!!

Way to go! We finally put our garden in yesterday too! My husband made a 4 x 12 spot along our fence. We have tomatoes, peppers, and cantaloupe so far.

Sometimes wanting to do something for you (and not cause you have to, or are being made to by your parents) really makes the difference. I'd love to see how your garden turns out!

Yeah! Go you! Hubby planted ours and it is so much fun now that stuff is coming up. I just hate this Texas heat, it's killing half of it, but it's the thought that counts I guess.

I really want to garden, too. I'll have to wait until I'm in a house though, or at least an apartment with a sunny balcony. We always gardened growing up, and I always hated helping out, but it's different when it's MINE and my money that I have to fork over for fresh veggies!
