I just made my way over to the neighbor’s, where my boys are happily playing with their new friend. 8:45 and I usually round them up at this time for baths and bedtime. But this time? They were having way too much fun, it’s still light out, and the neighborhood is still vibrant and alive. So I gave them a little more time. Summers are so short… the smell of fresh-cut grass, the birds chirping… lawn mowers humming and the sound of sprinklers. Long evenings – here in Alberta it’s pretty light up until 10 or 10:30 in midsummer – sitting around the fire, muted voices of neighbors on their porches.
No, I think we’ll let them play just a little longer today…

Oh, I totally agree. Some days routine needs to be put aside to savour what's going on :) That's so lovely!
Awe, that just sounds so nice!
The other night it was raining when I put the girls to bed. We could hear the neighbor kids outside playing in the rain, and my older daughter was a bit put out that she couldn't go out and join them. Already bathed and in pj's? Not this time!
That photograph is AMAZING! Wow. Gorgeous.
Summers are truly for children playing outside! I know the enjoyed the extra time!
That is the coolest picture! Something about the light makes me feel like I'm there. So fun.
Summertime fun! How I wish I could get those lazy days of my youth back.

You aren't kidding about how late the sun stays out! It's sorely missed come winter when it gets dark sooooo early.
10 PM? Wow, and we're excited when it stays light until 7:00 here! How cool.
I love the more laid-back attitude summer always seems to bring!
