winter wonderland

winter scene

Winter is officially here! With temps dipping down to -15°C (5°F) and a nice dump of fresh white snow, we’re heading into the longest, coldest season of the year. The boys got to go sledding today with some friends; I couldn’t believe how long they stayed out there!

There’s always the unfortunate side effects of the first snow… bad roads. Tech Guy has been on a couple of rescue calls to car wrecks, and I had a brutal drive home from the city yesterday.  But all in all, I’m happy to see the snow – it’s so pretty!

knowing

I was almost frantic to have that ultrasound… I’m not sure why, exactly…

But when Noodle was sick in the night before my appointment I was really REALLY upset that I might not be able to go in. And it wasn’t that I was determined to have a girl, I’m SO okay with having another boy.

Once they told me it was a boy, I got such a strong feeling about me… and then I knew why it had been such a big deal… Until now, this has been a “pregnancy”, “sickness” and a “disruption” to my normal life. But after seeing the baby on the screen, watching his strong little beating heart and hearing that it was a boy, suddenly I knew… this is now no longer a “pregnancy” but a baby, a person, a precious new little boy with all his fingers and toes and a healthy heart… and I just couldn’t be any happier!!

We got the 4D ultrasound and here’s a snippet from the video:

thinking blue

Today was the ultrasound It s a boy.ashxand it looks like it’s boy #3!!! We’re all so excited and couldn’t be happier! I’m not sad it isn’t a girl… I thought maybe I would be but I just love little boys and that’s one thing I know right? I just had so much fun shopping and picking out a few little “all-boy” items today. Now I can start working on picking paint colours for the nursery and settle on some names! Any ideas??

that’s what faith can do

{Incredible lyrics from a song by Kutless}

Everybody falls sometimes
Gotta find the strength to rise
From the ashes and make a new beginning
Anyone can feel the ache
You think it’s more than you can take
But you are stronger, stronger than you know
Don’t you give up now
The sun will soon be shining
You gotta face the clouds
To find the silver lining

I’ve seen dreams that move the mountains
Hope that doesn’t ever end
Even when the sky is falling
And I’ve seen miracles just happen
Silent prayers get answered
Broken hearts become brand new
That’s what faith can do

It doesn’t matter what you’ve heard
Impossible is not a word
It’s just a reason for someone not to try
Everybody’s scared to death
When they decide to take that step
Out on the water
It’ll be alright
Life is so much more
Than what your eyes are seeing
You will find your way
If you keep believing

I’ve seen dreams that move the mountains
Hope that doesn’t ever end
Even when the sky is falling
And I’ve seen miracles just happen
Silent prayers get answered
Broken hearts become brand new
That’s what faith can do

Overcome the odds
You don't have a chance
(That’s what faith can do)
When the world says you can’t
It’ll tell you that you can!

I’ve seen dreams that move the mountains
Hope that doesn’t ever end
Even when the sky is falling
And I’ve seen miracles just happen
Silent prayers get answered
Broken hearts become brand new
That’s what faith can do
That's what faith can do!
Even if you fall sometimes
You will have the strength to rise

owie

Last night Buster and I got basically no sleep, at least not before 4:30 am. He was lying on the floor beside my bed… crying and whimpering, in pain and with a fever that fluctuated around 101 - 103°F. His head ached and his ear was the source of many half-stifled screams. And with every expression of pain, my heart felt like it was being ripped. The umbilical cord was cut over 6 years, but I felt every pain like it was my own.

It was a long night.

This morning he woke up and found his ear draining bloody fluid. It was at that point I got a babysitter for Noodle and took Buster into emergency. I was so thankful it turned out not to be H1N1-related… but still cringed when they told me he had not only a bad ear infection but also a perforated ear drum. With antibiotics and some Advil, he finally fell into a deep sleep and is still peacefully sleeping.

Does anyone else get the feeling this will be a long winter?

girls night out

calgary tower marriottFriday night I had the opportunity to spend the night in the city with 2 friends…  no kids, no husbands, just some quality girl time… and it was just what the doctor ordered! After 14 weeks of morning sickness, then nearly 2 weeks down with a nasty cold, I was so stoked to show my face to the outside world! We ate dinner out and spent the night at the Marriott, right across the street from the Calgary Tower!

firefighter Tech Guy stayed home with the boys and spoiled them rotten; I think the guy time was needed just as much! Noodle couldn’t believe his good luck when Daddy got a fire call and they got to go along! He’s such a little imitator and today I heard him saying, “there’s a fire… roger…” into his “radio”… daddy is so proud! He’s a 3rd generation firefighter himself so it’s not surprising if one of the boys picks it up!
