You’ll remember this post where I was trying to figure out “blessings” and whether that’s really fair to believe that God sends us babies as blessings when so many deserving people aren’t getting the babies they desire. I got one reply via email that really impressed me, and I think says it better than I ever could have…
I don't have the answers, but one thought... is that if we have healthy kids, and so many other blessings, let us recognize them as gifts from God and not take them for granted. If we aren't thankful, THAT is an insult to parents with sick children or empty arms. If we don't love our children as we ought, THAT is an insult to childless couples everywhere. If we don't thank God everyday for the blessings we have, THAT is an insult to someone somewhere who would 'give their right arm' for what we have. And by realizing how GREAT the blessings we have, we can come closer to empathizing with those who have not, by understanding how empty and hard life would be without our undeserved blessings.
This insight comes from a good friend of mine and as she says,
“It comes from back when I was soooo sick during pregnancy. Which was really the pits, but the best feeling from others came when they said they felt fine and WERE TRULY THANKFUL for that. Truly recognized what a blessing it was to feel fine during pregnancy! Nothing made me as mad ;) as someone sailing through pregnancy and not understanding how hard it could be for some of us.”
Wow, I can so relate. Thanks to my friend, who wishes to remain anonymous, for putting that out there. Truly inspired!

Good stuff. God sends the rain on the just and the unjust and so I don't know if it's about some cosmic balance more than it's just simply about love. He loves us. Sometimes life hurts and sucks but he still loves us.
